Born in 1940, Roland Castro trained formally as an architect. In 1981, the then President of the Republic, Mr. François Mitterrand, appointed him responsible for renovating France's suburban environment. The transformation of several suburbs in the Hauts-de-Seine (Greater Paris) region and Rouen are among the many projects on which he worked. In 2005, Mr. N. Sarkozy started to focus on urbanism issues in the suburbs, Roland Castro became convinced of the need to attack the problem of urbanisation in a considered, rational and inspired manner. Roland Castro is a fervent supporter of the Athens Charter issued in 1943 by Le Corbusier. This charter lays down a set of rules relative to modern urbanism, known as the international style, and states that urbanism has to be stripped of any event-focused ideology and must be considered as an integral part of long-term and overall policy.

He was appointed President of the X-Finance group (Polytechnique alumni in the financial sector) in 2001.

Raffaele Trapasso is Administrator Economist, Urban Development Programme, OECD, Division of Regional Competitiveness and Governance, GOV Directorate. In his current position, Mr. Trapasso is coordinating the OECD Territorial Review of the Western Cape and organising the next OECD Urban Forum which will be held in Milan on September 2008. Since he joined the OECD, Mr. Trapasso, a regional economist, has been in charge of coordinating and co-producing the OECD Territorial Reviews of Madrid (2007) and Milan (2006). Before joining the OECD in 2005, Mr. Trapasso worked as a consultant for the Regional Government of Calabria (Italy) where he produced the “III Report on informal economy in Calabria” (2004) and contributed to the “Regional Plan for Employment” (2005). Between 2002 and 2003, he worked for the National Government of Italy (National Committee for surfacing of underground work, Cabinet of the Prime Minister).

Hamid BEN ELAFDIL is an engineer from the Ecole Centale de Paris. From 1996 to 2005, he was a "serial contractor" in various sectors such as education, assets management, financial services and information technologies. In September 2005, he was appointed by King Mohammed VI as Director of the Regional Centre of Investment of Great Casablanca.
Hamid Ben Elafdil is an active member of both the local and national civil society. He is a member of the board of “Illigh”, a society aiming at human development field in the south of Morocco, and founder and past national president of (CJD) the Centre of the Young Leaders of Morocco.
Hamid Ben Elafdil is the author of several papers and contribution on economy, entrepreneurship and finance in the Moroccan press and television.

Born in 1938, Thierry Jacquillat spent most of his career with the Pernod-Ricard group that he joined at the age of 25, and where he went on to become Vice-Chairman in 2004. As a driving force behind the merger with the Seagram group, he contributed to transforming the French family company into one of the world's leaders in the wine and spirit business, with a workforce of around 15,000 employees present on all 5 continents.
At the same time, he has been involved with the activities of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry where, until 2004, he acted as Vice-Chairman responsible for relationships with large corporations. In 2002, he was elected Chairman of the Paris Ile-de -France Capitale Economique organisation, an institution working to highlight the city's economic attractiveness.

Born in 1943, Alain Maugard, in 1967 was tasked with rationalising budget decisions in the Ministry of Public Works' Economic and International Affairs Department. Between 1972 and 1975, he was in charge of urbanism operations for the Hauts-de-Seine (Greater Paris) region.
He became Head of the Technical Policy Department at the Directorate of Construction and, between 1978 and 1981 he was Permanent Secretary for the Construction Plan. From 1981 to 1984, he acted as Deputy Cabinet Director at the Ministries of Urbanism and Housing. Following a period as Director of Construction at the Ministry of Public Works, he was appointed CEO of the La Défense Development Agency (EPAD) for three years. Since 1993, he has been Chairman of the Building Industry Sciences and Techniques Centre (CSTB). One of the CSTB's missions is to improve wellbeing and safety in buildings and their surrounding environment. The CSTB is active in four complementary domains: research, innovative engineering, quality assessment and knowledge dissemination.

Born in Athens in 1945, Nikos Fintikakis is a trained architect and a director of "SYNTHESE ET RECHERCHE Ltd". In Greece, he is also a member of the Technical Chamber, the Hellenic Architects' Association and the Hellenic Association of Consulting Firms (HELLASCO) that represents engineering consulting firms based in Greece. Within IUA, Nikos Fintikakis is a member of the board of management and director of the "ARES" work programme on the architecture and sources of renewable energy. He has received a host of national and international architecture awards and has been involved in European research projects. Nikos Fintikakis has participated in numerous architecture exhibitions in Greece and in other countries. Some aspects of his research work focus on bioclimatic architecture, archaeology, urban planning and renewable energy sources. He also writes articles for the national and international press and co-ordinates a multitude of Greek and European projects. Finally, he has been a jury member in several international architecture competitions.

Jean-Pierre Gautry is currently chairman of the French Society of Urban planners (SFU). He holds a PhD in urban planning and is the co-founder of several concepts namely: “the Mediterranean Arc” and “Territorial Marketing”. Alain Naman is an international expert urban planner. After studying architecture and urban planning, he worked at the Paris Urban Planning and Design Studio (Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme - APUR) and the Planning Office for the City of Paris where he contributed to the preparation of the Parisian urban development plan in the areas of forward-looking research. He then went on to participate in the design of urban development programmes for the Bercy and Gare de Lyon-Austerlitz areas of Paris. Gaëtan Siew is an architect and Chairman of the International Union of Architects (IUA). Since 1981, he has been exercising his profession in Port-Louis (Mauritius). His ongoing and completed projects include tourism and shopping facilities, urban development and redevelopment programmes in Mauritius and elsewhere in the Indian Ocean, France and India. In particular, he is the author of the plans for Mauritius International Airport and the Chinese district in Port-Louis, as well as the terminal at the Seychelles International Airport. He was elected Chairman of the International Union of Architects (IUA) in July 2005.
The IUA was founded in 1948, in Lausanne with the aim of uniting architects from all countries throughout the world, irrespective of nationality, race, religion or architectural doctrine, and to bring together their national organisations.

In 1969, he founded the "Arte Jean-Marie Charpentier" firm in Paris that he converted, in 1992, to a limited company specialised in architecture: "Arte charpentier et associés", of which he is the Chairman. Since 1994, Jean-Marie Charpentier has been increasingly active in developing prestigious projects in China. In fact, he has designed the Opéra in Shanghai, the central square in Pudong district and the Avenue of the Century. He is currently working on plans for the visa bureau at the future Police Headquarters. In Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, he is about to build a new city of 2.5 million inhabitants. Jean-Marie Charpentier is a member of the Academy of Architecture, Chairman of the Permanent Committee of the International Union of Architects, Vice-Chairman of the Franco-Chinese Committee of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and a member of French Architects for Export (AFEX) and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).

Peter Graham is the new Coordinator of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Sustainable Building and Construction Initiative. In this role Peter works closely with the public, civil and private sectors to assist the global transition to a sustainable building and construction industry. Over the last ten years, he has developed undergraduate and post graduate environmental studies curricula for building professionals in Australia and Internationally. He specializes in assessing the life-cycle sustainability of building development. His international research includes work with the International Energy Agency, the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building Construction, the International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environments and aid work in Pacific Island Nations with AusAID. He has recently submitted his PhD which focused on sustainable design curricula in architectural education. Peter's first book "Building Ecology: First Principles for a sustainable built environment" was published in 2003 by Blackwell.

Born in 1944, Eduardo de Oliveira Fernandes trained as a mechanical engineer. Very early on in his career, he began to focus on energy and environmental related issues. After serving as an expert with the European Commission, between 1984 and 1985, he acted as the Portuguese's government's Secretary of State for the Environment before working as Secretary of State for Energy and Innovation in the Ministry of the Economy between 2001 and 2002.
In addition to working as an expert, as the chairman of scientific bodies and firms specialised in the environment, being the founder of clubs and associations and conducting research (he has contributed to twenty or so special major research projects), Eduardo de Oliveira Fernandes also lectures at internationally-renowned universities.
